We had a first, short, facilitated online gathering to discuss Community Feedback and Mukurtu roadmap for 2012.

Meeting Details
Who: Mukurtu Community--people who are interested in the development of the software tool and how the development will proceed.
When: December 14, 2011, 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. PST
Where: Online meeting using GoTo Training.
Why: Mukurtu is a grassroots community-centered open source project and community dialogue is essential to building a successful tool. We are at the beginning of several major development sprints. It's the perfect time to capitalize on new momentum, share our development plan and reach out to you, our community, to help us make Mukurtu a valuable resource for the preservation, management and sharing of your digital cultural heritage.
Purpose of Meeting
A group of people from various organizations and institutions will meet to:
- Learn how to use the Mukurtu Premiere site
- Hear how to get the latest Mukurtu installation profile
- Meet the Mukurtu team
- Find out about community feedback technologies

Meeting Recap
Summary
We discussed the direction and goals of Mukurtu with its 1.0 release slated for next summer. Key topics included the new Premiere site, Mukurtu’s installation profile, feedback channels, and an open question and answer session between the community and development team.
Community Liaison Chach Sikes moderated the forum, with presentations by Project Director Kim Christen and Director of Development Michael Ashley.

Overview
Kim Christen began the meeting with a brief history of Mukurtu’s origins and trajectory as a grassroots, open-source project. Follow the link below to view the slides and notes from her presentation.
Technology and Premiere
Michael Ashley continued with a presentation detailing Mukurtu’s technical aspects, including a roadmap of its development, a demonstration of it in action, and an introduction to the Mukurtu Premiere site and features.
Follow-up Questions
A quick Q+A session followed Michael’s presentation, allowing community members to give feedback on the development side of Mukurtu.
Installation
The tech talk continued with another slideshow from Michael on the installation process for Mukurtu.
Community Feedback
Chach Sikes outlined the ways in which Mukurtu users can stay in touch and continue to give feedback.
Open Discussion
The last ten minutes of the meeting were given to a general, open discussion with all the attendees.
Conclusion
With a high attendance rate, enthusiastic participation and some great feedback, the Mukurtu team is excited about the next months leading up to our 1.0 release. Mukurtu’s grassroots origins continue to shape the direction of this project and user feedback and participation play critical roles in this mission. We once again wish to thank those of you who attended this meeting, and encourage everyone to look into our new Premiere site, contact us with questions and comments, and stay tuned for news of our next meeting!

- GoTo Training is easy and fairly reliable as far as online meeting tools go, however it make take you a few minutes to get connected and download the web browser plug-in.
- We will be online as early as 10:45 a.m. to help get everyone connected.

- Discussions: Chat, Hand-raising & Mute. To reduce echo-ing, we will have everyone on mute during presentations. During Question and Comment times, we will use the hand-raising and chat features to coordinate dialog.
